When am I ready to progress to something else?
It’s never an easy one, you obviously have to be confident that you can fly what you’re going for.
In my case I went with the Cessna first and once I had become competent with the basics (take off and landing, circuits of the field both ways, figure of eights around the field and controlled aerobatics and I do stress controlled!) they you are probably ready to try some thing a little faster or more aerobatic. Give yourself at least 8-10 hours worth of flights with no accidents and you’ll probably be ready, remember accidents can happen to all of us at any time but experience and patients lower the risk and keep the enjoyment!!
Steer clear of the EDF Jets until your extremely confident in what you are doing, EDF Jets are very fast and cover large fields in a matter of seconds, they take at least 4 times the amount of airspace to slow down on a landing approach and are much less forgiving at slower speeds. I’d advise that you have friend (spotter) with you to call out any dangers and keep you aware as to what is going on around you as you do not want to take your eyes off them at all for the first few flights. Let me make this clear to you once again, if your new to the hobby don’t risk the expense of a big crash with an EDF Jet!
You have been warned.
