Most of the weight in a model is the motor, radio equipment, battery and landing gear. The high wing location puts all this weight below the wing which naturally makes the aircraft want to fly upside up. Warbirds with low wings (wings mounted at the bottom of the plane) can still fly slow if they have a large surface area but because the wings are at the bottom they require more control to keep all the weight balanced on top and right side up.
